Palm Seed PodThe Palm Seed Pod Collection is based upon the palm’s seed pod and offers a fresh perspective in contemporary art. THE INSPIRATION: During July on Florida’s Suncoast, the palm's seeds turn from green to a vibrant orange. Not all the seeds turn at the same time. When sunlight moves across the palm tree, shadows are created on the seeds that contrast with the sun-soaked greens and vibrant oranges. Most people would not take notice of their brilliance. However, I am fascinated by nature’s designs. This led me to conduct a photographic study of the palm tree’s seed pod. Then one of the photos caught my eye and became the basis for the Palm Seed Pod Collection. The palm tree used for this design study is located just outside The Don Cesar’s Beach Guest Suites on Gulf Boulevard in St Pete Beach, Florida. THE WORK: There are four unique and distinct volumes: Volume 1, Base. The original concept used the orange palm seed pod to create design art and patterns that intrigue the mind. Volume 2, Circle Design. The vision quickly changed as I discovered interesting patterns and designs. This work developed into the circle design. The patterns have a depth of field that attracts the mind. Volume 3, Pink Exploration. This work expands upon Volume 2’s circle concept, but uses pink as the base color. Here, shadows and textures are explored. Volume 4, Open Circle Arrays. The work expands upon Volume 2’s circle concept. This uses the circle arrays to build a basis for a complex study. In addition, fashion colors are used to explore art and design. 25 Nov 2011 |
