PHOTO ESSAY: STS-135 Atlantis Launch
NASA Space Shuttle
Robert Neff -11 July 2011
On July 8, 2011, I attended the launch of the last space shuttle, Atlantis. I attended this historic event because NASA used social media to engage the world via Twitter.
I was one of 150 people selected to attend NASA Tweetup STS-135, a two-day event. We were exposed to guests, administrators and astronauts. All the attendees shared this experience with our followers through multiple social media apps.
This photo essay provides the reader the opportunity to walk with me on launch day. I close with the historic launch, however, this is without the sound, emotion, shockwave and bright light of the rocket's flame.
This photo essay begins with a behind the scenes look at the people and equipment, a shot of Anderson Cooper being interviewed, an alligator passing by and closes with the launch!
